Skeet Ulrich was born on January 20, 1970 in Lynchburg, Virginia as Bryan Ray Trout to his parents, who divorced when he was three years old. His mother then married D.K. Ulrich, former NASCAR driver and team owner. His nickname Skeet spawned from his original nickname Skeeter, which was given to him by his Little League coach because of his small stature. Despite being skinny, he was a very active and athletic young boy, until he underwent open heart surgery after numerous encounters with pneumonia when he was only 10 years old. Upon graduation from Northwest Cabarrus High School, he continued to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington to take up marine biology, but cut that short to pursue his education at New York University, where he was discovered by playwright David Mamet.
Ulrich's acting career began when he played the minor role of Becky's boyfriend on Roseanne. He also had some uncredited work in films such as Weekend at Bernie's and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He then joined the Atlantic Theater Company as an apprentice and started performing with the group. He was again discovered by director Stacy Cochran, who cast him in CBS' School Break Special. Ulrich's credits since then were Boys with Winona Ryder and The Craft with Neve Campbell. He also appeared in Scream, The Newton Boys, Chill Factor, As Good As It Gets, Touch, Ride with the Devil, and Takedown.
As for television, Skeet Ulrich joined the cast of the short-lived ABC series Miracles, and TNT's Emmy-nominated series, Into the West. He also took the spotlight with Keri Russell in the made-for-TV film, The Magic of Ordinary Days in 2005. A year later, he became a series regular for Jericho, where he played Jake Green. The series ended on March 25, 2008 and Ulrich signed up for other films like For Sale by Owner and Armored. He has also been credited for his voice work, taking on roles like those in Robot Chicken.
Skeet Ulrich was married to English actress Georgina Cates in 1997 in their farmland in Virginia. The actress mothered his children, Jacob Dylan and Naiia Rose. In 2005, the couple divorced due to irreconcilable differences and since then has shared custody of their children.
