Shazia was pushed by her father to become a doctor, but she found her passion elsewhere. Born in Pine Buff, Arkansas, she enrolled in Biochemistry at The University of Texas at Austin. She then realized that she showed more enthusiasm in redesigning her bedroom than about anything else. She then accepted a position at Gap as a visuals specialist after she graduated. At the age of 25, she entered The Art Institute of Dallas to study Interior Design. She blew off her familial and societal considerations to follow her real dream. The life-changing decision earned her a multi-billion dollar award of a contract with a healthcare services company. From there, she started her very own Egospace Interiors, Inc. Her designs are functional, with a touch of contemporary edge. Shazia finds inspiration in everything around her, including fashion, politics and the environment. In 2006, she was named the It gal of interiors, with her apartment being recognized in Dallas’ D Home and Garden Magazine. Shazia is not ready to stop yet, as she continues to build her successful and ambitious career. She has taken on commercial and residential rehabs, with clientele like The Trelivings, whose patriarch is the star of CBC’s Dragons’ Den and owner of Boston Pizza International. Shazia proves that she has mastered her ability, by kicking aside her fears with every challenge that comes her way.
Shazia is one of the thirteen designers competing in the second season of Top Design. The BravoTV game show is hosted by the stylish model and designer India Hicks, who is joined by fashion designer Todd Oldham. Oldham was the previous host of the show, but will serve as mentor to the contestants of the second season. Last season’s judges, Jonathan Adler, Kelly Wearstler and Margaret Russell, will be returning. Top Design is looking for one talented designer who will demonstrate the most flair and versatility in the challenges. Shazia is vying for a $100,000 cash prize, as well as a four-page spread in Elle D?cor magazine.
