Straight out of college over at Rutgers University, Sass x7 is an all-girl crew that does not like the cheearleader tag. This seven-member crew from Piscataway, New Jersey maintains they are a dance cream trained in all aspects of dance, not just cheerleading. They believe they have the sass necessary to make it far, hence the name.
Sass x7 is one of the dance crews competing in Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew, featuring street dance crews in the country. Hosted by Mario Lopez, America's Best Dance Crew is produced by American Idol judge and record producer Randy Jackson. The show boasts of a panel of topnotch judges, including hip-hop choreographer and street dance authority Shane Sparks, superstar MC Lil Mama, and singer, song-writer, and record producer, JC Chasez of the disbanded boy group NSYNC.
Sass x7 is obviously inspired by the women from the last season of America's Best Dance Crew. Most of them just graduated from college about a week from the auditions and they think of their stint at the dance competition as an incredible graduation present, since they wish to pursue a professional dancing career after college. During the live casting show, they said it was frustrating to be branded as just a cheerleading squad as they are trained even in hip-hop. During their performance, however, they still did the customary and typical splits associated with cheerleading moves. The judges told them that, while they looked great and their routine was clean, they have to bring something else to the table for they still remind them of a cheerleading team.
