Privileged: Clueless and The Devil Wears Prada

September 2, 2008

PrivilegedPrivileged, the new offering from the CW, leads the barrage of shows premiering (or returning) this fall that is set against a very affluent backdrop and features storylines depicting how the filthy rich and famous live. This new showfollows Yale-educated Megan Smith as she loses her job at a tabloid magazine and ends up being tutor for the two grandchildren of a cosmetics mogul (Anne Archer).

Together with the reboot of the '90s icon 90210, Gossip Girl, Dirty Sexy Money, Lipstick Jungle, and Do Not Disturb, Privileged is, according to experts, part of a wave of shows that reflect people's fascination with opulent mansions, preppy New York private schools, posh hotels, big business, and just filthy rich families.  In fact, according to Privileged executive producer Rina Mimoun, she grew up watching hit TV show Dallas, which leaned more or less toward the same descriptions.

'The Hills' Star Gets 'Privileged'

August 28, 2008

It seems that Lauren Conrad’s career is on a roll, with fashion design gigs, guest appearances and of course, her successful reality series, The Hills.  We recently reported that the 22-year-old reality TV star and fashion designer will be appearing as herself in the teen dramedy, Greek, in which she will be playing herself.  Now, Hollyscoop is reporting that Lauren Conrad has landed another guest stint on an upcoming teen series.

LC, as she is famously being referred to, will be appearing on an episode of the upcoming CW series, Privileged, which stars Joanna Garcia, Lucy Hale and Ashley Newbrough.

'Privileged' Actress Lands an Engagement and a TV Movie

August 24, 2008

Twenty-nine year old Joanna Garcia from the hit CW sitcom, Reba, has got things going great recently with her upcoming new CW series right around the corner.  This fall, Garcia comes back to television screens with Privileged, where she plays a smart Yale graduate who is set to teach some academic and life lessons to two spoiled, rich girls, played by Lucy Hale and Ashley Newbrough.  The series will debut on September 9 at 9pm on the CW.

Moreover, Garcia is also busy working on her new TV movie, which is set to be released later this year.

Bringing Sexy Back: #3 Joanna Garcia in 'Privileged'

Few actresses are able to completely change their appearance and the type of character they play and remain sexy, yet Joanna Garcia is doing just that. Best known as the teenage mother and wife on the underrated sitcom Reba, Garcia's not-so-smart blonde has been transformed into a brunette Yale graduate in Privileged, the new CW series. Though she was cute as a simple Texas girl, the smart and worldly Megan Smith on Privileged is a more mature and even sexier character. Blondes might have more fun, but we're more than happy with the hair change which gives Garcia the opportunity to move from adorable to hot.

BuddyTV Fall 2008 Preview: Debbie Chang's Top 5 New Shows

Normally, at this time of year, I would be daydreaming about all the new shows that are set to begin in just a few short weeks, but I'm largely unimpressed by the new fall shows this season. To be fair, I have not seen many of them yet because many of the networks have had their production schedules pushed back due to the WGA strike last year, so my choices are not as informed as they could be. Instead, I really only had the reputations of the cast and crew or, if I was lucky, a one or two minute preview on YouTube, to guide me in my list-making endeavors.

Three shows immediately stood out to me as programs that I would enjoy, and they immediately went into my top three. As for the rest, well, I was so uninspired by everything else that I just used the process of elimination: Starting at the very bottom of the pack, I picked the shows that look absolutely awful and probably would not live to see the light of episode three and went from there.

Making this list was actually a useful exercise that taught me a lot about myself. I learned that I am the CW's bitch.
