After working on the stoner comedy Pineapple Express, film director David Gordon Green has signed up for the director’s seat in the horror thriller Freaks of the Heartland. The film is an adaptation of the six-part graphic novel of the same name, penned by Steve Niles. It is set on a rural Middle American town and its dark secret, and one of its residents, Trevor Owen, attempting to hide his 6-year-old “monster” brother, and others like him, from the town.
The film’s script was written by newcomer scribes Peter Sattler and Geoff Davey. Niles, who also wrote the comic book series 30 Days of Night—which was eventually adapted into a film in 2007—will act as the film’s executive producer.
