Niecy Nash, born Carol Denise Ensley, is an American actress born on February 23, 1970 in Palmdale, California. A graduate of California State University’s campus in Dominguez Hills, she began her acting career in 1995, playing a minor role in the comedy Boys on the Side. It was only at the start of the next decade when her screen presence was intensified, although she was known on the Los Angeles stand-up circuit.
Nash’s many guest roles in television include those for Popular, NYPD Blue, Judging Amy, Girlfriends, Presidio Med, ER, That’s So Raven, Monk and CSI. She also had recurring roles in City of Angels and The Bernie Mac Show, where she played the late comedian’s sister. In 2003, she got her first regular television role, appearing in the Comedy Central parody series Reno 911! She primarily played the role of Raineesha Williams, a boisterous and obnoxious deputy officer who is very proud of her posterior. She also played the minor role of T.T., a bra-less and hysterical black woman who, in a parody of law enforcement do!$#!#entary styles, has her face pixelated.
Nash also hosts the home makeover program Clean House, which also premiered in 2003. The series sees her pair up with celebrity home designer Mark Brunetz in taking over a family’s home, has its occupants let go of items they don’t need, and gives their home a makeover. The program was notorious for one episode, in which the home’s owner did not like the final result and reacted negatively about it. Nevertheless, it has spawned two spin-offs and is successful in the ratings.
Nash’s most recent project is the comedy series Do Not Disturb, which premiered in 2008. She played Rhonda, the head of the human resources department of a New York hotel, whose brash and honest ways sometimes go at odds with her boss (Jerry O’Connell).
She is the front person for M.A.V.I.S. (Mothers Against Violence in Schools), which was founded by her mother in 1993, following the tragic death of her younger brother, who was shot and killed on his high school campus. M.A.V.I.S. aims to inform the public of the violence children encounter on school campuses.
Used to be a stand-up comedian before she had her third child.
She decided she wanted to be an actress when she was five years old, after she had seen the black actress Lola Falana on TV.
