A native of Rye, New York, actor and comedian Nick Kroll graduated from Georgetown University. He later trained with the Upright Citizen Brigade Theater, for which he eventually performed; it is through them that he scored his first television role, in 1998. He made a return to acting in 2004, when he began appearing as a guest on Things I hate About You, Jump Cuts and Human Giant. At the time, he also focused on writing, penning for shows such as Chappelle’s Show and Human Giant. He also appeared as a panelist for VH1’s Best Week Ever.
Kroll’s first regular television project came in 2007, when he took a major role in the sitcom Cavemen. The series, inspired by a series of television advertisements for Geico, revolves around cavemen becoming a distinct minority group rather than being fully replaced by modern humans. Kroll played Nick, the self-absorbed roommate of Joel (Bill English) and Andy (Sam Huntington), whose laziness leads him to always mooch off his roommates. The series was short-lived, however; from an original 13-episode run, it was cut to eight after the writers’ strike, and was cancelled quietly before the strike was resolved.
