'New Amsterdam' Producers Developing New Police Drama

November 28, 2008

Fans of New Amsterdam have something to look forward to in the coming months.  Sadly, it has nothing to do with the return of the short-lived drama that aired on FOX or its lead cast members.  However, it does give a chance for some of the brains behind New Amsterdam to continue showcasing their expertise in the world of police drama.

Sugar Hill, the latest brainchild of New Amsterdam producers Steven Pearl and Allan Loeb, revolves around two police detectives, one black and one white, who join forces on the chaotic and volatile streets of late-1960s Harlem.  Loeb and Pearl, who have a first-look deal at FtvS, are executive producing the project with Alex Winter (Saul of the Mole Men, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, We're Here to Help) serving as writer and co-executive producer.  The pilot will be broadcast on AMC.

The pilot season of New Amsterdam is coming to a close tonight following only eight episodes of the FOX drama series.  The show features Nikolaj Coster Waldau as John Amsterdam, a New York homicide detective who happens to be immortal due to an ancient spell that hinders his aging until he finds his one true love.

New Amsterdam was originally given a 13-episode order and was scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2007.  However, it was held as a mid-season replacement and began airing on March 4 instead.
