Biography

Take the BuddyTV Personality Quiz: What Lost Character Are You?

Naveen William Sidney Andrews was born on January 17, 1969 in London, England. He grew up in Wandsworth, South London, and when he was sixteen years old, had an affair with Geraldine Feakins, his Mathematics teacher. Their relationship resulted in one son, whom they named Jaisal.

After his notorious reputation in high school, Andrews decided to try out at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he became schoolmates with actors Ewan McGregor and David Thewlis. His training quickly easily earned him a part on the 1991 film, London Kills Me, and from there, went on to appear in the British television series, Wild West. His work on the show earned him an Evening Standard Drama Award nomination for Most Promising Newcomer. He then gained another nomination, this time for Best Actor at the San Remo Film Festival, for his work on the The Buddha of Suburbia.

In 1996, Andrews again graced the big screen with his appearance on the film adaptation of The English Patient. His other acting credits include Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love, True Love and Chaos, Bombay Boys, Mighty Joe Young, Rollerball and Bride and Prejudice. In 2004, he was given the role of Sayid in the highly-watched television series, Lost. A year later, People Magazine hailed him as the Sexiest Survivalist, and in 2007 appeared in the hit double feature, Grindhouse, which was under the direction of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. He was also in two other 2007 films, Planet Terror and The Brave One starring Jodie Foster.

While he was building his acting career in London, Andrews developed a strong affinity towards drugs and alcohol. His addictions threatened to destroy his budding career, and so he had no other choice but to seek rehabilitation. Fortunately, he was able to overcome his addictions, but claimed that London invokes many agonizing reminders of his past lifestyle.

-Sayid: I fought in the Gulf War.
-Hurley: No way! I got a buddy who fought over there. He was in the Hundred and Fifth Airborne. What were you, Air Force? Army?
-Sayid: The Republican Guard.

-Sayid: (about the "foot") I do not know what is more disquieting---the fact that the rest of the statue is missing, or that it has four toes.

-Sayid: What are you more concerned about: killing the Others or getting our people off this island? This afternoon you said you were our leader. It's time for you to act like one. Lead them to the radio tower, Jack and then take us all home.

-Sayid: There was a fundamental debate as to whether your people were coming to rescue us... or kill us.
-Miles: And which side did you land on?
-Sayid: I let you know when I decide.

-Hurley: Dude, I've been having regular conversations with dead people. The last thing I need now is paranoia.
-Sayid: I just killed a man who's been perched outside this facility for the last week. I'm finding paranoia keeps me alive.
