After completing a double major in performance and pre-med at the University of Central Oklahoma, Milena Govich moved to New York and found her first Broadway role as Lulu in the musical Cabaret. Born on October 29, 1976 in Norman, Oklahoma to professors of music, the American actress graduated as a valedictorian of her class. She pursued an acting career soon after, and moved to New York City. After her stint in Cabaret, she performed in 2002’s musical revival of The Boys from Syracuse. She was also in the musical Good Vibrations.
In 2004, she participated in the short drama Bad Behavior, written and directed by Marta Alicia Masferrer. She appeared on the pilot episode of Love Monkey in 2006, while working on another short, a comedy titled In Love. She gained attention for her recurring role as the prostitute and con-artist Candy on the series Rescue Me, starring Denis Leary. She also played the part of Jessica Rossi on the NBC legal drama Conviction, but the series was short-lived. In September 2006, Govich joined the cast of Dick Wolf’s Law & Order during the premiere of its 17th season. She played Detective Nina Cassady, the junior partner of Jesse L. Martin’s character, Det. Ed. Green. She soon got her status elevated to senior partner upon the retirement of Det. Joe Fontana, which was portrayed by Dennis Farina. She was a guest star during the show’s 16th season episode “Flaw,” and soon became a cast regular, becoming the first woman to play one of the two lead detectives on the series. She was soon replaced by Jeremy Sisto, with Govich accepting a guest role in the 20th Century Fox Television show K-Ville. She was cast as New Orleans District Attorney Lyndsey Swann, and has appeared on four episodes of the series.
