Daniel is the son of Phyllis Newman and Brian Hamilton, though he was raised by his mother with Danny Romalotti. He was involved in a car accident which killed Cassie Newman and ran away with Lily Winters to escape vehicular homicide charges. However, the authorities caught them and while Daniel was exonerated, Lily was sent to boarding school. After she arrived, they reunited and eloped to Las Vegas. A few months later, Daniel became involved with Amber Ashby and developed an addiction to internet pornography, which Lily discovered. She later asked Daniel to leave her house.
