Michael C. Hall was born on February 1, 1971. He started his acting career in the theatre, mostly doing off-Broadway productions of Macbeth and Cymbeline, and then worked his way to the television circuit. As an actor, he was popularly known for his portrayal of Davis Fisher in the drama series Six Feet Under where he was nominated for an Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and an AFI Award for Actor of the Year in 2002. Ultimately, he became part of the series Dexter where he plays the title character.

Dexter Morgan is the adopted son of Harry Morgan , a Miami forensic scientist. Apparently, he has a secret. He suffers from schizoid personality disorder which causes him to live a double life, appearing likeable and amiable by day, and gruesomely murdering the escaped justice at night. In addition, he is a whiz when it comes to blood spatter analysis and problems of women.

He grew up an only child, but his father died of cancer when he was 11 years old. “Certainly, for a young boy, there's no good age, but I think I was on the cusp of a time in my life where I was starting to reach puberty, to relate to my father. Hall attended Ravenscroft School in Raleigh graduating from high school in 1989, before going to attend Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana in 1993. He soon went to attend New York University's Master of Fine Arts program, and began his career in theater. Hall performed in the Broadway productions Cabaret and Chicago, as well as Cymbeline and Macbeth at the New York Shakespeare Festival.

In 2002, Hall married actress Amy Spanger, and began shooting for the Broadway musical Chicago the summer after their wedding. The two divorced, however, and a year later, he is rumored to be dating Dexter co-star Jennifer Carpenter.

After doing theater in college, Hall was cast as the flamboyant Emcee in the revival of Cabaret in what would be his first Broadway role. The same director who directed critically acclaimed film American Beauty suggested that Hall play the deeply closeted David Fisher on the HBO drama Six Feet Under. Later, Hall said that it was Cabaret indeed that opened doors for him.

In 2002, Hall was cast for the first season of the HBO series Six Feet Under, where he earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. As for the Screen Actors Guild, the cast of the series was nominated for best ensemble cast during the show’s five seasons. In 2006, he bagged the lead on the Showtime series Dexter, which again earned her a Golden Globe nod for Best Actor in a TV Drama for 2007 and 2008.
