Actress Mia Wasikowska was born in 1990 in Canberra, Australia. She studied ballet during her younger years but in 2006, she made the decision to shift to full-time acting.
She played Lily Watson on the award winning drama series All Saints. Wasikowska has quite a number of short films up her sleeves. In 2006, she was part of Lens Love Story, which was written and directed by Sonia Whiteman. She also appeared on shorts Skin and I Love Sarah Jane, where she starred as the title character, Sarah Jane.
Her performance as Lilya in the movie Suburban Mayhem earned her a Young Actor nomination at the Australian Film Institute. In 2007, she was Amelia Hamilton in September and portrayed Sherry in Rogue. She has also made an appearance as Chaya on the war drama film Defiance. Her co-stars include Daniel Craig, Live Schreiber, Jamie Bell, Alexa Davalos and Tomas Arana.
In theater, she was part of several stage productions such as Eternity/Quantum Leap, Olimpia, and The Wizard of Oz. In 2008, Wasikowska joined the cast of the HBO drama In Treatment. She plays the character Sophie, an accomplished teenage gymnast, who approached Paul when her dreams of joining the U.S. Olympic Team were shattered because of a car accident. She was riding her bike when she suddenly hit the side of the vehicle. Paul encouraged her to attend the sessions regularly after discovering about her relationship with her family and about her general malaise. This role enabled Mia to act alongside Gabriel Byrne, Dianne Wiest, Melissa George and Blair Underwood.
After In Treatment, she signed on for roles in other projects. These include I Hate to See That Evening Sun Go Down, and Amelia. She has also been cast as Alice in the Tim Burton adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s novel, Alice in Wonderland.
