An Out-of-this-World 'Life on Mars' Series Finale

April 2, 2009

Fans of ABC’s Life on Mars were treated to one of the most wildly original and daring series finales in TV history. In recent years we’ve seen Six Feet Under kill everyone off , The Sopranos cut to black and Battlestar Galactica jump 150,000 years into the future. But Life on Mars topped all of those.

Detective Sam Tyler was hit by a car in 2008 and woke up in 1973, unsure of how he came to be there. His season-long journey to go back home finally reached its end in the final scene of the series when Sam woke up and returned to his reality. It might not sound shocking, but the twist came when Sam’s present was revealed to be 2035.

ABC Cancels 'Life on Mars'

March 3, 2009

Life on Mars is dead. Today Variety is reporting that ABC's time traveling cop drama has been officially canceled by the network. However, there are glimmers of good news. Because the decision was made early, the show will be able to film a proper series finale as there are still five episodes left, and ABC plans to air them.

The show, based on a BBC series of the same name, follows Sam Tyler, a present day detective who is hit by a car and mysteriously wakes up in 1973. Why or now has remained the show's central mystery. The show premiered on Thursdays after Grey's Anatomy, but in January it was moved to Wednesdays following Lost. The first of the final five episodes airs tomorrow at 10pm on ABC.

GLAAD Nominates 'Supernatural,' 'True Blood' for Awards

January 27, 2009

Today the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation released its nominees for the 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. Aside from the usual television nominees like The L Word and Ugly Betty, there was one atypical nominee: Supernatural.

The GLAAD Media Awards have a special category for an individual episode of a show that doesn't feature a regular gay character. Supernatural was nominated for “Ghostfacers,” the faux reality TV series episode that featured intern Corbett (current 90210 jock Dustin Milligan) who had a gay infatuation with Ed, resulting in the classic line, “Ed, you have to go be gay for that poor dead intern.”

FOX-Produced Shows Get Budget Cuts: 'Dollhouse,' '24' Hit

December 18, 2008

All of a sudden, the bad economy comes knocking on our doors, and nobody—not most of us, at least—can't help but give in and start tightening some belts.  Television producers are also feeling the pinch, and as ratings and advertising revenues slide, the inevitable's got to happen: budget cuts.

20th Century Fox Television is the latest to order cuts in all production budgets, as tough economic times beckon.  This affects all of the shows produced by the banner, from established shows such as 24 and Family Guy, to newer shows such as ABC's Life on Mars, and even to shows that have yet to air, like Dollhouse.
