Born Laura Anne D'Ambruoso on February 20, 1978 in New Haven, Connecticut, Lauren Ambrose was educated at the ACES Educational Center for the Arts in New Haven and studied voice and opera at Boston University Tanglewood Institute. Her film breakout role was in In and Out in 1997 where she played Vicky, and was followed by a more prominent role in the high school comedy, Can't Hardly Wait in 1998. In 2001, she joined the cast of
Six Feet Under , playing Claire Fisher, a role she was recognized for, being nominated for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role Emmy Award twice. Her other television credits include her appearances in
Law & Order ,
Saving Grace and Party of Five.
Coco Tomkins is played by Lauren Ambrose in FOX's new series, The Return of Jezebel James. Coco is Sarah Thomkins' younger sister, a young woman with no job and just a friend's couch to dive into every night. One day Sarah, a successful children's book editor who has practically everything she ever wanted, comes to her in the hopes of reestablishing their relationship and have Coco bear her child. Coco immediately disagrees, however when Sarah tells her that she's turned Jezebel James, Coco's imaginary childhood friend into a real life story book, Coco thinks she might reconsider. The Return of Jezebel James follows two sisters as they rekindle their relationship and make the best out of their differences to find happiness and contentment.
