American actor Larry Joe Campbell was born on November 29, 1972 in Cadillac, Michigan. He graduated with a theater degree from the Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and later took a master’s degree, also in theater, from the Wayne State University in Detriot.
Campbell made the rounds of television sitcoms, first appearing as a guest in Stark Raving Mad in 1999. His first high-profile guest role was in an episode of Friends in 2000. His first starring role was in the short-lived sitcom The Trouble with Normal, which aired in 2000 and lasted less than a season. He has also played guest roles in shows such as The Geena Davis Show, The Ellen Show and Suddenly Susan. He also appeared in films, making his debut in the 1999 independent release Get the Hell Out of Helltown, and has since appeared in other films such as Wedding Crashers, The Eyes Have It and Drive Thru.
Campbell’s most successful television role to date is in the sitcom According to Jim. It first aired in 2001, and follows the travails of a brash but loving surburban father (Jim Belushi). He plays the lead’s best friend and brother-in-law, Andy, who is willing to help him in his attempts to find ways of doing things with less effort. He is also always on the lookout for her Ms. Right, and spends most of the show clumsily making his way through girls.
He also makes the rounds of venues across the country performing in improv shows, initially with the comedy troupe Second City Detroit, where comedian Bob Saget expressed how impressed he was with his performance. He later dabbled as a playwright, writing his own one-man show Terry vs. the Towel Lady, which was staged in Hamtramck, Michigan, as part of the comedy troupe 313.
