Biography

Born on May 4, 1979 in Laurel, Mississippi, Lance Bass has become known in the entertainment industry for his work as a pop singer, actor, film and television producer and author. He developed an interest in outer space when he was young, attending space camp in Titusville, Florida and thinking of majoring in engineering. As he was growing up, he sang for their Baptist church choir and became a member of the Mississippi Show Stoppers and the Attach? Show Choir. He focused more on his singing while he was studying at Clinton High School, and during his junior year, he received a call from Justin Timberlake and his mother. They asked Bass if he was interested in auditioning for a pop group, which later gained popularity as ‘N Sync. The group became famous in Europe, and their songs received major air play in the United States. They soon released the album No Strings Attached, following it up with Celebrity. The group disbanded some time in 2007, with the members going their separate ways due to Timberlake’s pursuit of a solo career.

Lance Bass began his acting career in 2000, when he landed a guest spot on the series 7th Heaven. The next year, he received his first starring role in the motion picture, On the Line. It was produced by his own company, A Happy Place (later known as Bacon & Eggs), but became a commercial failure which was poorly received by critics. Afterwards, Bass appeared on Zoolander, and was also in Wes Craven’s Cursed. He has also been seen as a wedding singer on the film I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. Bass has been known for his voice work as well, working on Robot Chicken, Disney’s Kim Possible, and Higglytown Heroes. He has also appeared on Broadway, playing Corny Collins in the production of the musical Hairspray. In July 2006, he revealed to People magazine that he was gay, receiving a notable amount of media attention, which was mostly positive. Bass has been noted for his passionate advocacy for space as well, and he even underwent cosmonaut training in Star City, Russia. As an author, he has released an autobiography titled Out of Sync.

Lance Bass has also been paired up with swing dance champion Lacey Schwimmer on the seventh season of Dancing with the Stars. Joining 13 other couples, the two are set to perform various types of dances that will enable them to win the much-coveted mirror ball trophy. The show is hosted by Emmy Award-winning game show host Tom Bergeron, and features Len Goodman, Carrie Anne Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli as the panel of judges.
