Katie Cassidy is a singer and actress who was born on November 25, 1986 in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of 70s pop idol David Cassidy and former model Sherry Benedon, though the relationship between her parents was periodically off and on, and they never got married. Katie is also the granddaughter of actors Jack Cassidy and Evelyn Ward. She was raised in Calabasas, California by her stepfather Richard Benedon, along with two half-sisters named Jamie and Jenna. She became interested in gymnastics when she was younger, and eventually joined the California Flyers as a competitive cheerleader. She graduated from Calabasas High School in 2005 and began acting as a child. During elementary school, she acted in productions of their community theater.
Even though she had appeared on television, she got her break endorsing Abercrombie and Fitch and Rock and Republic’s lines in 2004. This furthered her acting career, since her mother didn’t want her to act professionally until after graduation. She planned on attending NYU's Tisch School of Performing Arts, but eventually landed recurring roles on TV shows instead. She became known playing Zoe on the drama series 7th Heaven, in addition to guest-starring on the one-hour drama Sex, Love & Secrets. She has also dabbled in the music industry, not only by dating members of the former boy band Dream Street. She released the single “I Think I Love You” in 2002, before landing roles in The Division and Listen Up. She has also appeared on the big screen, getting a small role in the 2006 When a Stranger Calls and appearing on Click with Adam Sandler. That year, she landed a role in the thriller Black Christmas as the character Kelli Presley. In 2007, she expanded her career by working with Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace on a film called Taken. That same year, she was given the role of Ruby in the CW paranormal drama series Supernatural. Ruby is a demon-hunter with ruthless and brutal methods. Cassidy also beat out stars like Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Simpson for a part in Dallas, playing Lucy Ewing. She was also chosen to play a bride-to-be in the CBS series Harper’s Island.
