Comedienne Kathy Griffin was born on November 4, 1960 in Oak Park, Illinois, but also spent some time in Forest Park when she was younger. She has three older brothers and one older sister. In 1978, Griffin obtained her diploma from Oak Park and River Forest High School and a few years later, became a part of The Groundlings, an improvisation comedy group based in Los Angeles. Before her popularity on television rose due to her appearance on the NBC comedy series, Suddenly Susan, Griffin’s other television credits included the shows Medusa: Dare to Be Truthful, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Civil Wars. In 2001, she tied the knot with
Matt Moline , but five years later, filed for a divorce, claiming that Moline had stolen $72,000 from her account while they were still married.
Her success as a stand-up comic did not necessarily propel her to a high celebrity status. In fact, she has been considered as one of the many not-so-acclaimed artists in Hollywood’s D-List. Nevertheless, Griffin found a way to infuse humor into her situation by turning her life as a D-List celebrity into her very own reality series, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List. The show follows Griffin as she, with the help of her assistant,
Jessica Zajicek , goes about her usual routine of performing as a stand-up comic while trying to make contact with high-profile artists, who are often the subject of ridicule during her sets.
