Kath & Kim: Preview of "Florida"

January 8, 2009

Despite poor reviews and critics labeling the show as a huge failure, NBC is bringing back Kath and Kim to our small screens just to prove that show is still worth giving a try.  With the comedy series given a full season order after just four episodes, viewers are expecting the series to redeem itself with the remaining episodes, especially after a rise in the ratings last November when the show pulled 5.5 million viewers and a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic.  The show also maintained its My Name is Earl lead-in and has averaged 6 million viewers and a 2.6/6 rating in the 18-49 demographic.

Adapted from the Australian hit comedy series of the same name, Kath & Kim revolves around an iconoclastic mother-daughter duo.  Molly Shannon stars as cheerful mother Kath, while Selma Blair plays the role of her self-absorbed daughter Kim.  They have a love-hate dysfunctional relationship, which gets even more complicated as Kim separates from her husband of six weeks, Craig, and decides to move back home, putting a damper on Kath's love life.

NBC Still Fighting for 'Kath & Kim'

November 3, 2008

We recently reported that NBC’s remake of the Australian original Kath and Kim received poor reviews after being called “jaw-dropping awful” and having “no substance” whatsoever.  The Popwatch blog on Entertainment Weekly even criticized it the show, saying, “In translating the cult hit for a stateside audience, the creators of Kath & Kim have stripped the show of its essence and edge.  Overly slick, it lacks the grit and wit of the original.”

While most of you already labeled this show as a huge failure, NBC is fighting back by giving the show a full season order.

'Kath & Kim' Receive Poor Reviews

October 7, 2008

In August, BuddyTV gave you a Fall Review, giving you a sneak peek into the returning and new shows that will hit the airwaves this season.  One of those shows is NBC’s Kath and Kim, which premieres on October 9 at 8:30pm.  Unfortunately for most viewers, the TV critics are at it again, releasing their reviews and spoiling all the fun for us.

For those who wouldn’t want to be swayed, read no further because there may be bad news for those who are looking forward to NBC’s Kath and Kim, which stars Molly Shannon as Kath Day, Selma Blair as Kim Day, John Micheal Higgins as Phil Knight and Mikey Day as Craig Baker.  Created by Gina Riley and Jane Turner, the original series of Kath and Kim hails from Australia, and was developed for American television by Reveille Productions and Universal Media Studios in cooperation with NBC.

Selma Blair Not Fit for 'Kath and Kim'?

August 6, 2008

It's not a matter of talent, but a matter of shape.  Selma Blair of Hellboy fame is shunning her slim and athletic figure for an added ounce of flab.  Her new role in the comedy Kath and Kim has pushed Blair towards the side of snacks and sweets.

The 36-year old actress revealed that her character for the sitcom is a chronic nibbler.  Being a little out of shape is something new for Blair, so she had to cut back on her exercise routine to really tune in to the role of Kim Day.

'Kath and Kim' Producers Counter Fan Backlash

August 2, 2008

NBC has yet to premiere their new sitcom Kath and Kim, but already audiences are worried that the adaptation of the popular Australian comedy, which stars Molly Shannon and Selma Blair, would ruin the comedy.

The comedy, which is slated to hit the airwaves on October 9, revolves around a dysfunctional mother and daughter dealing with their lives.  The 40-something Kath (Shannon), a divorcée, finally has time for herself and her search for a new love.  Her daughter, 20-something Kim (Blair), suddenly decides to move back home after separating from her husband Craig (Mikey Day).  Kath reluctantly agrees, but she would not cater to her daughter's every whim like before.
