Karen Chuang is an all-around high school senior from Los Altos, California. She serves as her high school’s student body vice president and is a long-time member of the National Honor Society. She likes Math but does not fare worse in English, as recipient of the Hurston/Wright Award for her writing. As many as these achievements are, however, Karen Chuang is perhaps at her best in the dance floor.
Karen is part of a group called the Nick 6, featured in the Nickelodeon dance show
Dance on Sunset . Led by topnotch choreographer Tony Testa, each week, the Nick 6 performs a routine designed by Testa himself. These routines are specifically made for kids who have little or no dancing experience. The Nick 6 repeats the routine slowly throughout the episode so the kids watching can follow.
As a dancer, Karen Chuang started dancing when she was five and now trains in a variety of dances including ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, and tap. She has won numerous awards and scholarships for her dancing, such as the National Senior Female Dancer of the Year at Hollywood Connection in both 2005 and 2006, and the National Senior Performer of the Year at The Pulse in 2007. As a choreographer, she recently took first place in the Dance and Choreography division of the Olympiad of the Arts 2007.
