American actor Josh Hopkins was born on September 12, 1970 in Lexington, Kentucky. Hopkins is most famous for appearing on the CBS series Swingtown. The son of former congressman Larry Hopkins, he attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. He started his acting career in 1995, appearing on the romantic drama Parallel Sons. His first major television role came in 1998, when he joined the cast of the police drama New York Undercover; he stayed for the whole second season. He next had a recurring role in the television series Jack & Jill.
However, Hopkins is perhaps best known for his role in the hit series Ally McBeal. He joined the program on its fifth and final season as associate Raymond Milbury. He joined the cast of the crime drama Cold Case in 2003, playing persistent assistant DA Jason Kite. He then starred in the short-lived series Pepper Dennis, as Charlie Bab!$#!#, a news anchor with a love-hate relationship against reporter Pepper Dennis (Rebecca Romjin). In 2006, he joined the cast of another short-lived series, the drama Vanished, where he took on a recurring role. That same year, he was reunited with his Ally McBeal colleague Calista Flockhart, when he took a recurring role in her drama Brothers & Sisters. His latest television role is as Roger Thompson in the period drama Swingtown, which became controversial because of its subjects and portrayal of 1970s culture.
Hopkins also appeared in several notable films. These include The Perfect Storm, G.I. Jane, Pirates of Silicon Valley, One Eyed King, The Insatiable and Surrender Dorothy. He has played guest roles in shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Without a Trace, Ghost Whisperer and Kate Brasher. He also is a musician, who has performed in several festivals, most notably with James Marsden at the 2007 Lollapalooza Festival. His song, “Feigning Interest,” became a viral Internet hit. Viewers debated whether the song was outwardly misogynistic or a broad satire of one-track-minded men and women. Hopkins admitted that his intent was the latter.
(On his character in Ally McBeal)
-Raymond is quite a chauvinist. And as my mom will testify, I differ from him in that way. However, on the flip side, Raymond is extremely honest and I try to be. Look for more serious story lines for Raymond soon.
(On acting and his goals)
-I love acting, every job is a dream job when you're an actor. I'd like to do eventually more film work and to collaborate with the best actors and directors in film.
