British actor Joseph Beattie, born in 1978, attended King Alfred’s School in Hampstead prior to his stint with the Guildhall Drama College at age 18. He has acquired various roles throughout his career, playing a recurring character on the series Holby City. He later became a regular member of the cast of Vincent, working with Joe Absolom of Eastenders. Beattie began his career during the 1990s, making his film debut on the drama The Browning Version. This enabled him to work alongside Albert Finney, Julian Sands and Jim Sturgess.
In 1998, Joseph Beattie landed a role in the TV production Seesaw, and followed it up with a performance in the film Velvet Goldmine. The sci-fi action film also starred Christian Bale and Ewan McGregor. He later appeared on the direct-to-video thriller Nature Unleashed: Volcano. His next project became a string of television films, getting roles in Tom Brown’s Schooldays, Colditz and Malice Aforethought. All of these were released in 2005. That year, Beattie also got a stint as a guest star on Egypt, playing Charles Irby in the episode titled “The Temple of the Sands.”
Beattie rose to fame for his role as Malachi in the second season of the Sky One UK television series Hex. His character is the half-human son of Azazeal, and is naturally endowed with superpowers to become ruler of the forces of darkness. Beattie next got a part in the TV movie Mansfield Park, and was cast in several other feature films as well. In 2008, he portrayed the character Eric Visnjic the Alex Sand thriller Fast Track: No Limits, also starring Erin Cahill and Andrew W. Walker. Beattie’s next role was in the drama Brideshead Revisited, which was based on the classic British novel by Evelyn Waugh. Beattie later signed on to act in the film Marple: A Pocketful of Rye, and was cast as the lead actor in the Scottish dark comedy Eating Dust.
