Xzibit is one of the many American personalities with a successful career in many fields of performance. Born Alvin Nathaniel Joiner on September 18, 1974 in Detroit, Michigan, his career runs the gamut from music to television and film.
Xzibit’s rise to fame began in the mid-1990s, when he began touring with the West Coast Crew, a loose group of West Coast rappers. This was followed by the release of his debut album, At the Speed of Life, in 1996. Two years later, he released his sophomore album, 40 Dayz and 40 Nightz, which some consider to be his greatest album. The first single from it, “What U See Is What You Get,” became wildly successful; fans considered it his best song. To date, it remains to be the highest-charting single he released; it peaked at number three on the Billboard rap singles chart.
Throughout the next few years, Xzibit began to align himself with renowned hip-hop producer Dr. Dre, eventually scoring his breakthrough hit with the Snoop Dogg song, “!$#!# Please.” His third album, Restless, also proved to be a big hit, with carrier single “X” earning considerable chart success. His subsequent albums, Man vs. Machine and Weapons of Mass Destruction, were not as successful, but both still reached gold.
For most, however, Xzibit is best known as the host of the MTV program Pimp My Ride. The series, which premiered in 2004, offers a complete (if at times outrageous) makeover of participants’ cars. The series ran for six seasons in three years, and further established Xzibit’s fame in the entertainment world.
Xzibit has also acted for both film and television. Apart from guest roles in CSI: Miami and Cedric the Entertainer Presents, he played significant supporting roles in 8 Mile, xXx: State of the Union and The X Files: I Want to Believe. He is set to play a role in the upcoming fourth film in the successful franchise, Fast and Furious.
