Willard Smith Biography:
Born on November 30, 1947 in Connecticut, Willard Smith was sickly as a child, and spent most of his time in the hospital. At the age of 5, he fell victim to rheumatic fever, which confined him to a wheelchair for several years and forced him to live in a children’s hospital for one year. Fortunately, he was able to overcome the disease, and at the age of 17, signed up for the Marine Corps. He gave five years of his life to Marine Corps, two of which was spent in Vietnam, where he was a reconnaissance scout/sniper. After his departure from the Marine Corps, he worked as a US Postal Service mail carrier during the day and completed his college studies at night. He eventually obtained his degrees in sociology and philosophy from the San Diego State University. 4 years after he met his wife, Pamela, Smith enlisted in the Army, afterwhich he obtained his law degree from the University of San Diego. Smith also served in the Army National Guard for 9 years and eventually was placed in the Retired Reserve. He continues to hold memberships for the Washington State Bar Association and the First Marine Division Association. He was previously affiliated with University of San Diego Appellate Moot Court Board and the National Order of Barristers.
During his participation on Survivor: Palau, Smith found it hard to find common ground with his fellow Koror tribe members despite his great mental ability, and when both Koror and Ulong went to the tribal council on Day 12, Smith became the seventh contestant to be sent home from the Island.
