Director and choreographer Vincent Paterson
is one of the few people who have invaded virtually all aspects of the entertainment industry. He has worked on films, Broadways, concert tours, opera, music videos, TV shows and even on commercials. His commercial credits include Pepsi, GE, Rubbermaid, NIKE, Payless and El Pollo Loco.
Two of his biggest clients are Michael Jackson and Madonna. He directed and choreographed Madonna's Blonde Ambition Tour and her Truth or Dare documentary. He was also chorographer for the Oscar winning musical film Evita. Paterson was responsible for Madonna's “Marie Antoinette/Vogue” performance at an MTV music awards. For the king of pop, he directed MJ's Bad tour. He was the one who conceptualized, choreographed and co-directed the “Smooth Criminal” number on the action crime musical movie Moonwalker. The video of the song “Blood on the Dance Floor” also belongs to his long list of impressive credits.
Patterson also worked in several music videos for different artists Van Halen, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and David Lee Roth. In films, he did the moves on The Bird Cage, Hook and Havana. His choreography for the Broadway version of Kiss of the Spiderwoman earned him a Tony Award nomination. In Search of Dr. Seuss, a TNT special he directed and choreographed, also earned seven Emmy nominations and five A.C.E. Award nominations.
In 2002, he choreographed the musical sequences on the musical drama film Ðancer in the Dark, which starred Björk. It won the much coveted Palme d'Or prize from the world's most prestigious film festival, the Cannes Film Festival. He also made a dance-film reflection about the September 11 tragedy entitled Threnody. The Houston World Film Festival gave it a Gold Jury Award.
He is currently working on a project called Elvis. He both writes and directs the Cirque Du Soleil's show which is scheduled to open at Las Vegas City Center in 2009.
