Tom Buchanan Biography:

Born on October 30, 1955 in Rich Valley, Virginia, Tom Buchanan attended Rich Valley High School, where he was an active member of the football, basketball and baseball teams. On a football scholarship, he completed his tertiary education at East Tennessee State University. Following his graduation, Buchanan went back to his hometown and started working on his family’s goat and cattle farm. He has memberships to the Virginia Cattleman’s Association and the Rich Valley Farmer’s Club. In his spare time, he enjoys playing softball, fishing and bird hunting. Currently, he goes around various elementary schools as a promoter of reading literacy and manages the family farm.

When he was a contestant on Survivor: Africa, Buchanan made it all the way to the Final 4. Using the nickname “Big Tom,” he started off as one of the competition’s favorites. However, his untrustworthiness was gradually exposed, and it ultimately led to his elimination on Day 37.

Buchanan was asked to come back for the show’s special season, Survivor: All-Stars, and came short of maintaining his previous finish, as he was the 14th person to be voted off the Pearl Islands. His fellow Chogoba Mogo tribe members sent Buchanan home due to his conflicting alliances.
