Biography

Born on September 16, 1975 in Bussum, Netherlands, Thekla Reuten is best known for being a top European actress with several Oscar nominations under her belt. She is best known for her role as the female lead in the Emmy-nominated terrorism-themed US miniseries Sleeper Cell. The daughter of an Italian mother and a Dutch father, she graduated from Amsterdam’s Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1997.

Reuten came to global prominence with her role in the Oscar-nominated film Twin Sisters, a critics favorite worldwide. Twin Sisters received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Film. She teamed up with some of Europe’s most promising leading men, including Gael Garcia Bernal in Blood Wedding and Danil Bruhl in In Tranzit. It also starred the legendary John Malkovich and Hollywood regular Thomas Krestschmann. It was the film directorial debut of Tom Roberts. She plays Russian woman Elena who is returning as a female prisoner at the end of the Second World War. She was also in Highlander: The Source, today regarded as one of the most successful independent film and television franchises. He was also in Ober, which premiered at the 2006 Dutch Film Festival. She was in the experimental do!$#!#entary about acting called CO/MA.

Reuten speaks five European languages: Dutch, English, Italian, German and French. Her Italian-speaking role in Una Belleza Che Non Lascia Scampo was a huge hit in Europe in 2000. She was in an episode called “The Economist” on the ABC hit series Lost. In 2009, she was cast on the NBC sci-fi series Day One, which follows a group of apartment residents who survive an unknown global catastrophe.
