Biography

The Hatch is featured as one of the Top 12 bands in the Fox network’s competitive reality television series The Next Great American Band. It is an alternative rock group that was formed by Jesse Macht, Todd Rubin, and Sean Douglas back in 2001, during their college days at Washington University located in St. Louis, Missouri. The band currently operates out of Brooklyn, New York. The core members were joined later on by Austin Schumacher as a drum player. Even further later on in 2007, Rubin was replaced by Gary Atturio as the resident bass player. The current lineup and instrument assignments for The Hatch are Douglas on the keyboards and as a vocalist, Macht as another vocalist and as a guitarist, Atturio on bass and Schumacher on drums.

The group has stated that among its numerous musical influences are Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Randy Newman, Gram Parsons and the Fallen Angels, and Coldplay. They have also been described as sounding similar to other performers such as Hall and Oates, Maroon 5, Ed Harcourt, and Pete Yorn. Their debut album was titled Fit to Burst, and they have also stated that they channel Michael Jackson and The White Stripes in their performances. The Hatch makes use of an indie-rock business model.
