Award-winning actress Tamera Darvette Mowry was born on July 6, 1978 in Gelnhausen, West Germany. She rose to fame upon appearing in the sitcom Sister, Sister, which also starred her identical twin Tia Mowry. The series ran from 1994 to 1999, but the girls continued to gain popularity even after it ended. Tamera, who is distinguished from her sister by the mole on her cheek, attended Birmingham High School in Van Nuys, California. She then found herself studying at Pepperdine University in California with Tia. She majored in psychology at Pepperdine University, and spent the summer 2001 studying abroad at Pepperdine's Italian campus in Florence. As the twins were growing up in Texas, they competed in pageants and constantly moved. Later, they begged their parents to transfer the family to California, where their love for acting flourished.
Before gaining attention on their hit sitcom, Tamera Mowry was seen on episodes of Flesh ‘n’ Blood, Full House and Are You Afraid of the Dark?. She was also known for playing Emma c. squared on several episodes of The Adventures of Hyperman, and as Roxanne on Smart Guy. In 2000, she was cast as a younger version of the character Cat Donovan on the movie Seventeen Again. She followed this up with a role in the comedy The Hot Chick before reuniting with her twin sister Tia on another project. This was the Disney Channel original movie Twitches, as well as its sequel Twitches Too. Tamera then took on a more mature role and played Dr. Kayla Thorton on the series Strong Medicine, which ran from 2004 to 2006. Tia appeared on the show as well, particularly on the episode “My Sister, My Doctor, Myself.” Tamera next voiced a character on the animated series Family Guy, and was later chosen to play the strong-willed character Hope in the ABC Family Channel show Roommates.
