Surya Yalamanchili was nicknamed "The Hair" during his time on The Apprentice. The Ohio-based Brand Manager was born in born in Norristown, PA and grew up in Old Bridge, New Jersey. At the age of 15, he had already started a successful e-commerce strategy company. While at Ruters University, he was class president and commencement speaker, and graduated with honors in finance and psychology. He then became a brand manager for a top-ranking Fortune 500 company where he strategies to help the company evolve its media plans to keep up with changing consumer habits.
When he was a contestant on The Apprentice Season 6, he claimed that he "can operate with the passion and energy of an entrepreneur and bring along the discipline and savvy of a corporate executive." He was unfortunately fired on the eighth episode of the show, despite winning two challenges. He lost the respect of the team when he became more of a follower than a leader. Since then, he worked for LinkedIn in Silicon Valley and even ran for Congress in 2010. He soon emerged as the winner of the Democratic Primary for U.S. Representative in Ohio's 2nd Congressional District and faced U.S. Representative Jean Schmidt in November for her House seat.
