Scott William Winters was born on August 5, 1965 in New York City. He was raised in a family of mixed descent, with Irish blood on his father’s side and Italian heritage from his mother’s. Scott has three siblings: a sister named Blair, a writer and poet named Bradford, and his eldest brother Dean. Both Scott and Dean have worked as actors, and appeared together in the HBO TV show Oz, where they played the role of two brothers. Scott has also acted in the hit Fox television series
24, as well as the Academy Award-winning feature film Good Will Hunting.
Cyril O’Reily is portrayed by Scott Winters in the HBO prison drama television series Oz. He is the brother of Dean and is also Irish-American, with a similar history of crime. However, during an intense fight, Cyril was seriously injured and suffered severe brain damage, with him ending up rendered mentally handicapped. He murders the husband of Dr. Gloria Nathan after being instructed to do so by his brother, who wanted Gloria for himself. Cyril is later on raped by Vernon Schillinger, the leader of the Aryan Brotherhood. He is also eventually executed, in spite of Ryan’s numerous attempts to have his brother’s life spared.
