Born on December 10, 1978 in Duluth Minnesota, Sally Schumann is a graduate of Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she was a member of the women's soccer team while majoring in social work. She has been employed by the Buffalo High School in Buffalo, Minnesota as their social worker and varsity girl's soccer coach. Although Schumann enjoys many activities, such as playing baseball and hockey, fishing, camping, playing broomball, reading and listening to music, she considers photography as her greatest passion. She describes herself as compassionate, competitive and funny. The accomplishment she is proudest of is having trained for and completing her first marathon.

Schumann is a big fan of the reality series, Survivor, and after auditioning for the show 5 times, she was finally accepted to compete in Survivor: Panama-Exile Island. She was a member of the Bayoneta tribe for only four days, and during the reshuffling was transferred to the La Mina tribe. Schumann was able stay in the island long enough to witness the merging of the two tribes into one, which was blessed with name Gitano. Schumann was voted off the Island on Day 24, as she was one of the few original La Mina tribe members left in Gitanos.
