Russell Hornsby took interest in acting after auditioning for a high school production of The Wiz. He later took up theater at Boston University, and also trained at the British Academy of Dramatic Arts. He then moved to New York where he appeared in several off-Broadway productions.
Hornsby later moved to Los Angeles to pursue film and television roles. His first regular television role was in the ABC series Gideon's Crossing; he later appeared in the short-lived Haunted, and recurred in Playmakers. He later starred in ABC Family's Lincoln Heights and HBO's In Treatment. He currently stars in NBC's Grimm.
