Rupert Grint is a British actor who shot to fame with his portrayal of Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter film series.
Born in Watton-at-Stone, Hertfordshire, England on August 24, 1988, his previous acting experience was only in plays in his school and his local theatre group, Top Hat Stage School. A big fan of the Harry Potter books, he was very interested in getting a role for the first film. His audition video has him dressed up as his drama teacher, rapping about how badly he wants the part. He won the part of Ron Weasley, best friend and sidekick figure of sorts to Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe). He appeared in the series’ first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, released in 2001.
Rupert Grint reprised his role in the four succeeding Harry Potter films, and is also set to appear in the last three films. Alfonso Cuarón, who directed Harry Potter and the Prison of Azkaban, thought that Grint would be the most successful among the series’ three lead stars, which also include Radcliffe and Emma Watson. In 2002, he also appeared in the British comedy Thunderpants, playing the role of Alan A. Allen. In 2006, he appeared alongside Laura Linney and Julie Walters in the coming-of-age film Driving Lessons.
Rupert Grint also does voice-over work for both radio and television. He notably voiced the character of Nigel Molesworth in the BBC radio comedy Baggy Trousers, which aired in 2003. He also voiced Peter Pan in yet another BBC documentary.
Grint has won two awards in 2002, both for his performances in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: a Young Artist Award for Most Promising Young Newcomer, and a Satellite Special Achievement Award for Outstanding New Talent. He is slated to appear in the 2009 drama Cherrybomb.

"Oh, they're scary. To think that people are going to be playing with you!" [About Harry Potter action figures]
Being famous is wicked, but it's better to be normal.
[Answering to "Is Emma Watson actually bossy like Hermione?"] I'd tell you, but she'd hurt me.
