Rosario Dawson is an American actress and singer, best known for her roles in films such as Kids, Sin City, Rent and Death Proof.
She was born in New York City on May 9, 1979. She didn’t have any interest in acting, and instead aspired to become a marine biologist. However, she was discovered by film writer and director Larry Clark, who proceeded to cast her in the controversial 1995 movie Kids, a film about sexually-active teenagers.
Since then, Rosario Dawson has appeared in different films. Among them are 1998 sports drama He Got Game with Denzel Washington and NBA player Ray Allen, and the 2002 sequel Men in Black II, alongside Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. She also appeared in some box-office failures, including The Adventures of Pluto Nash and the adaptation of Josie and the Pussycats.
In 2004, she played the role of Roxanna, Alexander the Great’s (Colin Farrell) bride, in the film Alexander. In 2005, she joined the cast of the adaptation to the musical Rent, where she plays nightclub dancer and heroin addict Mimi Marquez. That same year, she appeared in another adaptation, this time for the graphic novel Sin City, opposite Bruce Willis, Benicio del Toro and Jessica Alba.
In 2006, she appeared in the film A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, starring Robert Downey Jr., and Channing Tatum. The following year, she appeared with Tracie Thoms in the Quentin Tarantino-directed film Death Proof, part of the Grindhouse double-bill. She also appeared in the film Descent, which she also produced.
Rosario Dawson has also collaborated with artists like Prince, Outkast and the Chemical Brothers. She has also appeared on stage, in the musical Two Gentlemen of Verona. She is set to appear in the film version of Wonder Woman, and in the Sin City sequel.
