Biography

Actor Ron Perlman is known for his different roles in television and film, as well as for his voice-over work. He was born in New York on April 13, 1950.  His film debut was in Quest for Fire, released in 1991, and since then, he has appeared in several minor and supporting roles in films and television series.  In 1987, however, Perlman played the role of Vincent in the television series Beauty and the Beast, alongside Linda Hamilton.  It was his breakthrough role; his portrayal of a noble man-beast earned him a large fan base and a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Series.

In 1995, Perlman was cast in his first leading film role, as One in the film The City of Lost Children.  He has also appeared in other films, such as 1986’s The Name of the Rose; 1993’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn; 1997’s Alien: Resurrection; 2001’s Enemy at the Gates; and 2002’s Blade II.

In 2004, Perlman was cast for yet another leading role, this time in the comic book adaptation Hellboy.  The film’s director, Guillermo del Toro, fought to get him to play the role, after working with him in previous films such as Chronos and Blade II.  Subsequently, he played the same role in the sequel Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.

Ron Perlman is also known for his voice-over work.  His deep, rolling voice has been found suitable for many animated programs and video games.  Notable programs include Animaniacs, Batman: The Animated Series, Phantom 2040, Hey Arnold!, Teen Titans, Justice League Unlimited, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Kim Possible.  He also voiced Professor Sam Tucker in the 2000 animated feature Titan A.E.

In 2008, Perlman landed one of the lead roles on the FX series Sons of Anarchy, where he plays motorcycle gang leader Clay Morrow.

"I've done millions of mediocre movies. I've done way more than my fair share. You do what you gotta do. This is not heart surgery. I'm not curing cancer. I'm just trying to put my kids through school."
