American actor Robert Gant was born on July 13, 1968 in Tampa, Florida. He started out acting in television commercials and joined the Screen Actors Guild at the age of ten. He attended law school at Georgetown University, though he continued acting in a number of stage productions even as he pursued his career as a lawyer. Robert Gant has appeared on television in shows such as Pepper Dennis, Silk Stalkings, My So-Called Life
, Hangin' With Mr. Cooper, Veronica's Closet, Caroline in the City, Friends
, and Melrose Place. He has also performed onstage in productions of The Mikado, Little Shop of Horrors, Taming of the Shrew, Whose Life is it Anyway?, and Grease.
Ben Brucker is played by Robert Gant in Showtime's gay life drama series Queer As Folk. He starts dating Michael after they meet in a comic book store, though Ben is revealed to be HIV-positive. They have a number of fights as they become a couple, and Ben sleeps with Brian Kinney at one point. Ben also turns to steroids after he learns that the man who gave him HIV is dead, prompting Michael to threaten Ben that he'd infect himself with HIV too unless Ben would stop. Eventually, Ben proposes to Michael while they're in Canada, though the marriage wouldn't be recognized upon their return to America.
