Polly Walker Biography:

Polly Walker was born in Lancashire, England on May 19, 1966. The British thespian initially started her career as a dancer, but had to quit due to an injury when she was 18. From the London Drama Center, she transferred to the Royal Shakespeare Company and played bit roles for several months prior to her getting minor roles in the small screen. Her TV and film credits include Lorna Doone, Sliver, Restoration and Emma.

Atia of the Julii is played by Polly Walker on HBO's historical drama series Rome. Atia comes from one of the most powerful families in Rome, and she is the niece of Julius Caesar and mother to Gaius Octavian and Octavia . She is the classic femme fatale who uses her feminine wiles to get what she wants.
 

Biography

English actress Polly Walker was born on May 19, 1966 in Cheshire, England. Originally aspiring to become a ballet dancer, she took up lessons at the Ballet Rambert School in Twickenham, where she graduated at age 16. However, two years later, she suffered a leg injury and was forced to retire. She then turned to acting, and went to the Drama Centre in London, before playing bit parts under the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Walker established herself as a bankable drama actress. She appeared in numerous British serials and drama series, debuting in an episode of Storyboard in 1989. Her first major role was in the 1990 adaptation of Lorna Doone, where she played the title character. She went on to appear in numerous movies, including Patriot Games, Roseanna’s Grave, Robinson Crusoe, Talk of Angels, After Alice and Savage Messiah. Her next major television role was in the television movie Jeffrey Archer: The Truth, where she played the wife of the title character (Damian Lewis).

Walker returned to regular roles when she joined the cast of the highly acclaimed six-part BBC drama series State of Play. The series centered on a newspaper’s investigation on a young female political aide’s death; Walker played the role of Anne Collins, the wife of parliamentarian Stephen Collins (David Morrissey), who deals with the apparent affair between her husband and the murdered aide, who worked under him. This was followed by a role in the epic drama Rome, where she played the niece of Julius Caesar (Ciaran Hinds), Atia of the Julii. This earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama Actress in 2006. On the back of the show’s success, she joined the cast of the short-lived American drama Cane, where she played Ellis Samuels, a member of the rival family of the Duques. In 2007, she portrayed Lady Bess Sedgwick in ITV’s Marple: At Bertram’s Hotel and was chosen the next year to play Sister Clarice Willow in the Battlestar Galactica prequel, Caprica.
