He has worked in Swedish and American film, performed on stage, and is a voice and television actor as well. He was born in Kumla, Narke, Sweden on August 27, 1953. He began his acting career at the Swedish Royal Dramatic Theater, as a member for 11 years. While performing in numerous Shakespearean plays, Stormare became the Associate Artistic Director for the Tokyo Globe Theatre in the 1990s. He went to New York eventually, choosing to appear in many English language productions. His career in Sweden began with legendary actress Ingmar Bergman, who discovered him.
In 1996, Peter Stormare found himself in the critics’ spotlight due to his role in Fargo, where he played a ruthless villain. Some of his other films include Minority Report and The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997. The next year, he starred in an episode of Seinfeld and was also in the film The Big Lebowki. He was then cast in Armageddon and Bad Boys II. He has starred as Lucifer in the 2005 film based on the graphic novel Constantine, opposite Keanu Reeves. He was also seen in the highly anticipated movie The Brothers Grimm, playing an interrogator alongside Matt Damon and the late Heath Ledger. Stormare soon landed his big break in television, portraying the character John Abruzzi on the series Prison Break. His role is that of a Chicago mob boss who has been imprisoned for two acts of murder and two for conspiring to commit murder. Stormare’s other television appearances include one in the sitcom Joey, Monk as well as one in the crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. He was also in the telefilm Hitler: The Rise of Evil, as well as the series Watching Ellie. Stormare is also known for running his own record label, called StormVox.
