Peter Reckell was born on May 7, 1955 in Elkhart, Indiana. He is a nature lover who likes bicycles, electric cars, conservation and recycling. He built his own solar-powered home, feeling strongly for the environment. He enjoys martial arts and yoga, and theater as well. He also does pilates to improve upper body strength. He prefers to ride his bicycle to work on most days. He also drives an electric car. He is married to singer Kelly Moneymaker, to which he has one daughter, Loden. He was once divorced.
He was trained at Boston Conservatory while working as a singer-waiter and later on moved to New York City to pursue his career in acting. He did an off-Broadway production of Moonchildren, and performed in The Fantasticks, Carousel, Pirates of Penzance, Jesus Christ Superstar, Guys and Dolls, Love Letters, and Death Trap. Among his television appearances are As the World Turns, and Knots Landing. One of his notable ventures is Broken Bridges, a political film produced by Oscar winner, Rustam Ibraguimbekov, which was shot entirely in Russia.

in Days of our Lives, it was said that he changed the face of daytime with his portrayal. For the role he was named number one actor by Soap Opera Digest for three consecutive years, on top of an award for Hottest Male Star. While Peter Reckell enjoys monumental success on television, he admits his first love is still theater. He also dabbled in music, releasing a self-titled album in 2000 via an independent record label Midnite Sun Records.
