Paramore is a Grammy-nominated rock band from Franklin, Tennessee. The band, which consists of Hayley Williams (lead vocals/keyboard), Josh Farro (lead guitar/backing vocals), Jeremy Davis (bass guitar), and Zac Farro (drums), formed in 2004 and released their debut album All We Know Is Falling in 2005. Their second album, Riot! was released in 2007, and went platinum in the US and gold in the UK and Ireland.

Paramore formed when its members were active high school age musicians. Davis and Williams met through their inclusion in a funk cover band called The Factory, and the two Farro brothers practiced music together after school. The other members of Paramore have said they were a bit hesitant at first about including a woman in their band, but all the members’ mutual friendships and Williams’ songwriting talent meant that the arrangement worked out in all their favors. The band took their name from the mother’s maiden name of one of their former members, and decided to keep the title after recognizing its relationship to the homonym “paramour,” which means a secret lover.

Paramore played their first show in Nashville, where they quickly built up a local fan base. The group’s first big break occurred in early 2005, when John Janick, founder of Fueled By Ramen Records, caught a Paramore show in Florida, and was immediately impressed with their sound and stage presence. Janick immediately signed the band to his label.

Paramore has enjoyed vast and rapid success and buzz in the music industry. They have been showcased in multiple Vans Warped Tours, been deemed a band to watch by Rolling Stone, Alternative Press, and other music magazines. Paramore was nominated as Best New Artist at the 2008 Grammy Awards, and have received wide acclaim, especially for the vocal talents of their young lead singer. Williams was born December 27, 1988, and has been praised by artists like John Mayer, who called her “the great orange hope,” orange in reference to her hair color, and has been likened to fellow pop-punk frontwoman Gwen Stefani.
