Student Paloma Soto-Castillo is one of the contestants of the reality series Survivor: Gabon. Born on August 24, 1984, she spent most of her childhood in her home country of Chile, before moving to the United States. She graduated with a communication degree from California State University in Long Beach, but is still studying, currently working on her teaching credentials while moonlighting as a waitress. She spends her free time reading, traveling or playing poker.
Paloma grew up in a mobile lifestyle, with her parents’ work as missionaries meaning she moved around a lot during her childhood. Her ability to adapt to any environment is one of her advantages in Survivor. She hopes to win the competition to be able to build an orphanage or school in Kenya; at one point in her life she left everything behind and lived amongst the country’s natives alone, seeing their suffering first-hand. She hopes to go back to Kenya and change their lives in a way she sees fit.
