Noah Wyle is an American film and television actor particularly known as Dr. John Carter in the hit medical drama ER.
The son of Marjorie Speer and Stephen Wyle, Noah Wyle was born on June 4, 1971 in Hollywood, California. His mother is an orthopedic head nurse while his father is an electrical engineer. He attended The Thacher School in Ojai, California and graduated in 1989. He started to take interest in acting while he is high school. After graduating in junior high, Noah Wyle participated in the theater arts program in Northwestern University. He was also a regular cast in his high school’s plays, and even won an award for a play he wrote. After finishing high school, he continued studying acting under known acting coach Larry Moss.
Wyle had his big screen debut in 1985, when he appeared in Paul Bartel’s film Lust in the Dust. This was then followed by his parts in the feature films Crooked Hearts which was released in 1991 and There Goes My Baby released in 1993. He also starred in the commercially successful film A Few Good Men, playing the Marine jeep driver Cpl. Jeffrey Barnes.
Wyle finally had his big break when he was cast as Dr. John Carter on NBC’s award-winning medical drama series ER. His performance in the series earned him Emmy Award nominations. He then followed this with his starring roles in the movies Swing Kids, in which he played leader in the Hitler Youth and The Myth of My Fingerprints in which she co-starred with Roy Scheider, Blythe Danner and Julianne Moore. In 1994, Wyle played Lancelot in the made for television movie Guinevere, alongside Sheryl Lee.
Wyle’s other acting projects include The Librarian: Quest for the Spear and its sequel The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines, Pirates of Silicon Valley, Donnie Darko, and Fail Safe.
