Despite being born in Japan, Naoko Mori spent part of her childhood in the United States and in the United Kingdom. She moved to London when she was 12, and decided to stay there because of her studies.
Mori began acting in the early 1990s, first appearing in the British comedy Absolutely Fabulous, and later in the medical drama Casualty. She later appeared in the films Spiceworld and Running Time. She recently was part of the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood, which she appeared in the first two seasons. She later starred in a BBC biopic on John Lennon's life, Lennon Naked, where she was reunited with one-time Doctor Who co-star Christopher Eccleston.
Mori also appeared in several West End productions, recently in the London production of Avenue Q.
