Melanie Brown appears as a contestant in the fifth season of the ABC network’s celebrity reality television dance competition series Dancing with the Stars. Mel and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy have received perfect scores four times during the season leading up to the season finale. During the ninth performance show, they received perfect scores for both the Viennese waltz and the paso doble, giving them a perfect night.
Mel B made it to the finals, competing against Marie Osmond and Helio Castroneves. Marie was revealed early on in the night to be the tenth celebrity dancer to be eliminated from the competition. Mel and Helio had a dance-off, she dancing the mambo and he dancing the quickstep. They both received perfect 30s from the judges for their performances, but in the end Helio was named the champion, and Mel the runner-up.
Mel is an English pop singer, actress, and television personality who was born on May 29, 1975 in Leeds, West Yorkshire. She is most famous for being one of the members of the Spice Girls, and she was dubbed “Scary Spice” by the British press due to her in-your-face demeanor, throaty laugh, and an affinity for leopard-print clothing. The multiracial daughter of a Nevisian father and an English mother, together they raised Brown and sent her to study the performing arts at the Intake High School in Leeds.
Brown has also worked for a time as a dancer at a holiday resort in Blackpool, Lancashire. She first began performing musically after auditioning and joining a band named Touch. After the girls of the group changed management and started working with Simon Fuller, they became known as the Spice Girls, and turned into a global pop phenomenon. Later on, Brown pursued a solo career, both releasing a debut solo album titled Hot and acting in productions such as Burn It, The Seat Filler, and The Vagina Monologues.
