Matt Winston is the son of Oscar award-winning special effects and make-up wizard, Stan Winston, of Aliens, Jurassic Park, Batman Returns and Terminator 1 & 2 fame. Matt was born and raised in Los Angeles and started acting in school plays at the young age of five. Despite his early stab at acting, his family did not consider it a suitable profession for him so he first had to earn a proper degree which he did at prestigious Yale University.
After leaving Yale, he went on to work for his father and helped on the first series of Budweiser Frog commercials before sinking his teeth into the monster hit, Jurassic Park, from acclaimed director, Steven Spielberg. After a brief foray into the special effects world, Winston ventured on his own to finally pursue the acting career he had put on hold. Having appeared in many popular television shows, Winston gained popularity for his recurring role as temporal agent Daniels on the Star Trek: Enterprise series. He became one of only three actors, besides the regular cast, to appear in all four seasons of the Gene Roddenberry series.
Matt Winston is probably known for his roles in two HBO dramas. He was seen on Six Feet Under as Terry, and on John from Cincinnati as Barry Cunningham. His character on the latter required him to play the new owner of Imperial Beach’s Snug Harbor Motel. He has recently returned with his $11 million winnings from the state lottery. He struggles to make friends, often using his newfound wealth, but soon discovers that all his money cannot erase the past that continues to haunt him.
Winston has also appeared on several films. He was seen on the movie adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s novel Fight Club, as well as in Artificial Intelligence: AI, About Schmidt, The Core, Kicking & Screaming, Little Miss Sunshine and 2007’s I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. On television, he has been credited for performances in Boston Legal, Worst Week, The Middleman, Teachers and Grey’s Anatomy.
