His grandparents Barbara Chapman and Wesley Chapman joined them eventually and they opened up a bail bonds office in Hawaii’s Big Island. Though he is the only one among his siblings who graduated from high school, he was arrested at the age of 17. It was because he mugged a tourist.
In 2005 Leland divorced Dakota,& Cobie's mother Maui.In 2006, he was once again arrested with his father and Tim Chapman.
It occurred in Hawaii, and they were charged for their involvement in the arrest of fugitive Andrew Luster. He was released later that year on $100,000 bail and the three of them were ordered to be put under house arrest. In 2007, all charges were dropped against them.

Although he appears to be shy, he can easily transform his timid persona into rough and rugged energy especially when dealing with fugitives.
