American film, television and stage performer Lavell Crawford became one of the top 10 contestants appearing in season five of NBC’s reality television series Last Comic Standing. He said of his inclusion in the lineup of finalists, “I was elated and flabbergasted. And I knew that God had smiled on a fool today.” He has appeared on television in other shows and specials such as Motown Live, Showtime at the Apollo, The Jamie Foxx Show, and Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam. Crawford has also acted in the films Ghetto South Problems and Baby Mama’s Drama.
Apart from his onscreen work, he has also performed in plays such as Men Cry in the Dark and Friends and Lovers, the latter based on the book by novelist Eric Jerome Dickey and in which he played Bobby. Crawford also tours various comedy clubs, among them The Laugh Factory, Caroline’s on Broadway, The Stardrome, and The Comedy House Theatre. He presented his act at the Comedy Festival in Las Vegas and the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, which is widely considered the largest yearly comedy festival worldwide. His national tour is ongoing, coinciding with the release of his own comedy CD, Takin’ a Fat Break.
