Biography

Kristin Kreuk was born on December 30, 1982 in Vancouver, Canada. Of mixed descent—her father has Dutch blood; her mother, while born in Indonesia, has Chinese blood—she trained in gymnastics at the national level until she suffered from scoliosis. While in secondary school, she was convinced by her drama teacher to join auditions for the Canadian teen series Edgemont, who earlier started looking for someone to fill the character of Chinese-Canadian girl Laurel Yeung. Despite not having any acting experience aside from school plays, she won the part.

Edgemont was a moderate success in Canada, as well as internationally, and Kreuk was cast in other different roles. In 2001, she played the lead role of Snow White in the television movie Snow White: The Fairest of Them All. Her biggest break, however, came when she was asked to audition for the role of Lana Lang in Smallville, the series about the live of teenager Clark Kent (Tom Welling) before becoming Superman. Initially she was unsure about the role she would receive, presuming that since the character is popular in school, she’ll have to play a shallow idiot, but was later impressed when she read the script. When she was finally offered the role, she immediately accepted it.

After wrapping up shooting for Edgemont in 2003, she made her feature film debut, via a cameo appearance in the 2004 comedy EuroTrip. She also snagged a role in the Sci Fi Channel miniseries Legend of Earthsea, where she played high priestess Tenar, opposite Shawn Ashmore. She has also appeared in two independent films: Partition, where she a 17-year-old affected by the partition of India; and in Dream Princess, a sci-punk retelling of Sleeping Beauty. She is also the longest-running spokesperson for beauty product line Neutrogena, having signed up from 2003.

Fun Facts

Justin Marks (Street Fighter II writer) - "The second factor is Kristin herself. She's really something special, a fantastic actress and very selective about what she will and won't do, because she knows that lots of girls out there are really impressionable. So we've gone to great lengths to make sure Chun-Li is not just a sex object fantasy for people's desktop backgrounds. That was something Kristin made very clear, and we're honored that she's willing to go that route, because it's one of the factors that's going to elevate this above adolescent video-game adaptation." full story

Kristin is committed to being a role model for young women. To that end she (along with Kendra Voth) has created a web site and social network called Girls By Design : "a PLACE where teen girls can come together to EXPLORE, EXPRESS, CREATE and realize their potential together."
